Why Use Natural Green Products

Comparing Superzilla to the most commonly used hazardous chemical on earth

It is important to know plant derived products are superior cleaners, superior lubricants,    and superior penetrating oils.  The only difference is it costs more to manufacture products from plants than petroleum based products.  But the savings of using hazardous chemicals are not worth the potential health and environmental issues down the road.

One specific hazardous chemical which is found in virtually everything we use such as cleaners, degreasers, lubricants, penetrating oils, air freshers, fertilizers, floor polishes, cosmetics, insect killers, bleaches, paints, thinners,  toilet cleaners, window cleaners, and even diaper deodorizers has a hazardous CAS number of 64742-47-8.  The chemical goes under many names such as petroleum distillates, petroleum solvents, mineral spirits and several others but its CAS Number is the same.  The CAS number identifies the chemical properties regardless of the name assigned to the product.   The percentage of this hazardous chemical in a product can vary but some products can contain 100% according to their MSDS sheets.  There are varying degrees of dangerous chemicals, but one would find it difficult to find another dangerous chemical as widely used as CAS 64742-47-8.

The warnings and dangers of CAS Number 64742-47-8 can include:

  • Can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its vapor and by ingestion.
  • Harmful or fatal if swallowed
  • Avoid skin contact with liquid
  • May cause effects on the central nervous system
  • Exposure to high vapor concentrations may result in unconsciousness.
  • Skin Contact; Confirmed animal carcinogen (cancer) with unknown relevance to humans!
  • Defats the skin
  • Specific Target Organ Toxicity (single exposure) (Narcotic effects)
  • Toxic to aquatic life with long term effects
  • This material is considered hazardous by OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29 CRF 1910, 1200)
  • Repeated or prolonged overexposure to solvents can cause brain or other nervous system damage.
  • The symptoms can include the loss of memory, the loss of intellectual capacity and the loss of coordination.
  • This product can expose you to Benzene, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. The product can expose you to chemicals including Naphthalene, Ethylbenzene, which are known to the State of California to cause cancer, and Toluene, which is known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm.
  • This product can expose you to chemicals including Distillates (petroleum), hydrotreated light, which is/are known to the State of California to cause cancer. See www.P65Warnings.ca

Our non-hazardous Superzilla and Gunzilla are made from natural based plant materials and they have none of these warnings!

If you want to know if you are using a product with CAS number 64742-47-8 look for ingredients on the label.  It won’t say the CAS number but it will say petroleum distillates, petroleum solvents, mineral spirits and several similar names.  If you use this chemical be sure to wear a carbon mask, nitrile gloves and be in fresh air.  If you are in a work environment where you are exposed to this chemical all day then you should consider wearing a protective suit.

Dangerous & Hazardous Chemicals

2

When a patient visits Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN with a health issue the doctors first look at a person’s environment and specifically what hazardous chemicals they may have come in contact with either at work or in the home.  A doctor at Mayo Clinic told Don Kettles he was glad to see our non-hazardous products, because he said they were seeing many patients with liver problems, kidney problems and nervous disorders being created by exposure to hazardous chemicals in solvents.  The doctor went on to say most people don’t realize by breathing the vapors or by skin contact the chemicals get absorbed into the blood.  Once in the blood stream the hazardous chemicals get removed by the liver, kidneys or bone marrow where they can remain for the rest of a person’s life!

The ATSDR (Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry) claims the link between chemicals and cancer goes back to the 1700’s.  According to the ATSDR many scientists believe chemicals damage the DNA in cells which leads to many cancers.  People of all ages get cancer, but it is most common in people over 55.  One in three people will develop cancer in their lifetime.  In addition, one in 450 children will develop cancer before the age of 15! Scientists believe the high rate in children is caused by mutated cells in a child’s rapidly growing body dividing before the cells can repair the damage to the DNA.    While hazardous chemicals are not responsible for all cancers, removing them from commonly used products and replacing them with non-hazardous green products will certainly reduce the odds of a person’s DNA being damaged by chemicals during their lifetime.

A study titled “Impact of Solvents Leading to Environmental Pollution” from the Journal of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences talks about the environmental impact of solvents and the health issues associated with this pollution.  The conclusion of the study states “the environmental pollution created by solvents will be reduced by using Green Chemistry.  Green Chemistry is the use of chemical products and processes that reduce or eliminate substances hazardous to human health or the environment.”

When you use non-hazardous Green products you are supporting American farmers, protecting your family, protecting workers, protecting animals and you are protecting the earth.
